Clinical Statistical Analysis of Neck Mass


Abstract
A clinical review was done with 115 cases of the neck mass. The material were selected at Ewha Womans University Hospital during the period from January, 1988 to December, 1992, and they were all admitted cases, histologically proven cases, and
the
thyroid lesions were excluded.
@ES Following results were obtained;
@EN 1) Of the 115 neck masses, inflammatory lesion were 69(60%), benign neoplasm 27(23%), congenital lesion 10(9%), metastatic tumor (5(4%), primary malignant lesion 4(3%) in order of frequency.
2) The most common age group was 3rd decade(38%) and the next was 2nd decade(17%).
3) The overal sex ratio of male to female was 1 : 1.2.
4) In the view point of number and location, most of the cases were unilateral lesions, about 89.6%, and the single lesions were about 81.1%. It was the inflammatory lesion that be multiple lesions.
5) The lump in the neck was the most common chief complaint (83.5%).
6) In the case of proved tuberculous lymphadenitis, it was the 7% of the patients that have proved to be active pulmonary tuberculosis, and the 21% of the patients showed scarring of inactive pulmonary tuberculosis, on the chest X-rays.
